Welcome to the R2 Digital Library

Accessing the world of health sciences knowledge has never been more efficient, navigable, or economical than with the R2 Digital Library. The market-leading eBook database from Rittenhouse features thousands of medical, nursing, allied health, and consumer eBooks from the leading STM publishers. The R2 Digital Library offers several models for purchase including firm ordering, evidence-based patron-driven acquisition (PDA) program, and access to free OER eBooks. Select from curated collections for your patrons including Doody Core and Essential Titles, Nursing Books of the Year, and best-selling content sets—or curate your collection using our intuitive tools.

Topic-driven search across your eBooks provides your patrons access to a vast image library, and integrated tools to enable quick access to the information they need. Now mobile enhanced, the R2 Digital Library is available any way and anywhere for your patrons.

Accessing the R2 Digital Library

The R2 Digital Library can be accessed with any web-enabled device at R2library.com. Institutional Administrators will have a unique login which provides access to the Institution Hub. Here you will be able to set your institutions access method, display preferences and manage your users. Important information about your collection including usage statistics and discoverability options can also be accessed.

eBooks available within R2 Digital Library

Search and browse for eBooks using the "Search and Browse all eBooks" bar or start with the "Trending Now" and "Purchase eBooks" section in your R2 Hub page. Utilize the various filter and sort tools available to find the eBooks you would like to add to your collection. Note: The R2 Digital Library offers access exclusively to health sciences eBooks—not journals. The R2 Digital Library does offer pass through access to PubMed, MeSH and Cinhal. With IP authentication your patrons can link out seamlessly to your primary source materials.

The R2 Digital Library offer Special Collections and bundles of eBooks in key subject areas and disciplines. If you don’t see a Special Collection or bundle that interests you, contact your Rittenhouse sales representative or customerservice@r2library.com to request a special list of eBooks.

Purchasing eBooks or Adding to PDA

Once you find an eBook, you can click on the cover image to learn more about that specific title or click on a "Purchase" or "Add to PDA" icon to place the eBook in a shopping cart for purchase or directly to a PDA collection.

Select the number of concurrent users you’d like to purchase and add the eBook to a new or existing Shopping Cart. All eBooks from the R2 Digital Library are purchased for the life of the edition with a one-time payment.

R2 Digital Library Collection Evolution

When a new edition of an eBook is released to the R2 Digital Library, you still have access to an old edition of an eBook via your R2 Digital Library Archives. You can choose whether to include Archived eBooks into your displayed collection for patrons, or make them accessible through the filter option. You are welcome to purchase the new edition, and you can sign up for email notifications to alert you to new editions of eBooks without your R2 Digital Library collection.

Institutional Branding

Add your library’s logo and welcome message to brand the R2 Digital Library and your eBook collection for your patrons. Visit the Account section and upload your logo in the Institutional Branding area. For extra personalization, set Patron Facing Display Name and Featured Message that you would like to appear when your patrons access your R2 Digital Library collection.

PDA Quick Start Guide

The Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) is a powerful collection development tool that enables institutions to open an eBook collection, and leverage patron usage data of the leading health sciences database with no automatic purchase, and no upfront costs.

Here’s how:

  • Any active R2 Digital Library eBook, not currently owned by your library, can be selected for a PDA collection. New eBooks can be added at any time.
  • eBooks can be continuously added to your PDA collection with auto-replenishment.
  • Three session-level full-text accesses to each PDA eBook are available to users.
  • The third session-level full-text access of a PDA eBook indicates it should be purchased and the eBook moves to your PDA shopping cart. No automatic purchase required. Access to that eBook reverts to the Table of Contents.
  • Reports of PDA activity and access can be generated anytime

Getting the Most Out of Your PDA Collection:

  • Your purchased, free and PDA eBooks are part of the same collection, and are accessed as such by patrons.
  • Make all eBooks discoverable, including PDA with free MARC download, persistent URLs and integration with discovery systems.
  • Use the PDA History reporting to track and manage your PDA collection.
  • Use Auto-Replenishment to have eBooks automatically added to your PDA collection.

Getting Started:

Within in the Collection area of R2library.com, Search and Browse for eBooks you would like to add to your collection in the top search bar or in the "Purchase eBooks" area. Use the available Sort and Filter tools to narrow down the eBook Search results. To add an eBook to a PDA collection, either click on a PDA icon in the book tile or click into a specific book and select "Add to My PDA Collection" button. Under the main search results, you can also use the select all box and "Add to PDA" option under "Execute Selection."

Managing your PDA Collection:

In the "My PDA Collection" area, you can review your active PDA selections and usage, add to your shopping cart and remove eBooks from your PDA collection.

Use "My PDA History" to review your library’s PDA activity, including accesses and triggered events. You can download this history using the integrated R2 Digital Library tools.

Purchasing PDA Titles:

The R2 Digital Library notifies you if titles in your shopping cart were added via PDA triggers. Check out your PDA Shopping Cart to purchase.

Auto-Replenishment Guide:

  • Use Auto-replenishment to ensure new eBooks are added to PDA automatically. Let the R2 Library keep up with your collection for you.
  • Any new editions of owned or PDA eBooks can be automatically added to PDA as they become available on the R2 Digital Library.
  • You can establish auto-replenishment parameters based on your collection development needs

Printing Content from the R2 Digital Library

The R2 Digital Library enables you to print sections of a resources on the platform. To comply with publishers’ copyright policies, during a session level, if a resource receives more than 60 print requests or 20% of the total number of HTML pages that compromises the resource on the R2 Digital Library over a 24-hour period, then print functionality will be temporarily suspended for that resource. Patrons will receive a notification upon crossing the 75% threshold of allowable print requests. If printing is suspended for a resource, all Institutional Administrators associated with an account will be notified immediately.

Trialing the R2 Digital Library

Getting Started:

To get started with an R2 Digital Library trial, you’ll need an active Rittenhouse account number. Don’t have one? Contact customerservice@r2library.com and a Rittenhouse Team member can help you get set up with an account and start your trial!

Trialing:

Your patrons will have access to health sciences eBooks on the R2 Digital Library. Review the available usage statistics throughout your trial to inform your purchase decisions.

You can build or save a shopping cart in preparation for your initial purchase and transition to an active R2 Digital Library account. Note: If you make a purchase during your free trial, your trial will automatically end, and your account will convert to active status.
